Tara region is a diverse rural community located on the western edge of the Darling Downs, approximately 380 kilometres south west of Brisbane and 180 kilometres west of Toowoomba.
Since its gazettal in 1912, Tara region has produced some of the finest Wheat, Oil, Grevilleas and Wool Paintings.
Tara region made the headlines in April 1961, when oil was struck at Moonie, located on the southern end of the region, the oil continues to flow. Grain, Beef and Wool production has been the lifeblood of Tara region since its inception and continues to be so this very day. Diversified industries have been introduced in more recent years including, ostrich and goat breeding, jewellery, market gardens and crafts just to name a few...
The western boundary of the region is home to the natural bush ‘Myall Park Botanic Garden’ originating from David Gordon (amateur Botanist) and Dorothy Gordon (Artist) in the late 1980’s. Tara township is home to Barbara Geisel who is famous for her wool pictures, Barbara’s pictures have traveled many a journey around the world.
