Tara is a quiet country town that offers a unique 18 hole sand green golf course, a bowls club, a peaceful lagoon to picnic by or while away the hours with a fishing rod. Explore the local shops and discover great bargains. The kids can burn off some energy at the skatepark while you enjoy a BBQ under the trees.

Visit the Pioneer Village and Historical Museum, dedicated to the struggles of the early Pioneers. You will find a vast display of bottles, sheep drenching guns,  furniture from the original Court House and church, relics from the first township of Southwood and photographs dating back to the late 1800s.Visit Tara's unique talent, internationally acclaimed resident artist Barbara Geisel and her collection of world famous Wool Pictures.

Tara is also home to the famous Western Downs Champion Sheep Dog Trials at Easter and the local Show in March holds some unique events and an impressive Rodeo.. The whole shire stops, and visitors travel from all over Australia and overseas for the acclaimed Maranoa Super Shears Shearing Competition where the Trans Tasman Challenge is one of the major highlights. The biannual Tara Festival of Culture and Western Downs Camel Races  held in August are a tremendous experience and not to be missed.
