The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is embarking on one of the biggest peacetime recruitment operations in Australia’s history, and your help is needed!  The ABS is looking for about 26,000 workers Australia wide to help deliver Census forms to more than 10 million households.  Throughout Queensland more than 5000 collectors will be delivering Census forms from Cape York all the way to the southern border, to ensure everyone in the state is counted.  The positions are paid positions.  Collectors work part time and will require their own vehicles but will be compensated for this use in the fees paid.  The National Census of Population and Housing is held every five years, and is the basis for all ABS population figures.  It’s estimated that data from the Census will be used for determining 30 billion dollars worth of funds distribution throughout Australia.  The census will be held on 8 August this year, with Collector recruitment commencing on 8 April.  Collectors will be employed from 30 June until 9 September.  If you are interested in making a positive contribution to your community, while earning a few extra dollars log on to www.abs.gov.au/recruitment and click on the ‘2006 Census’ link or phone 1300 236 787 (1300 CENSUS).  Applications are being accepted now.
